Yosemite Elopement Photography Workshop: Why Education Matters for Your Business

I was looking for something. I never would have guessed that scrolling through Pinterest would lead to more than I even could have imagined. I found Rooted Workshop while I was looking for a Christian women’s photography workshop, not realizing that such a thing even existed! Created specifically for wedding and elopement photographers, Rooted Workshop is for those who love adventuring and running their businesses all for Jesus. Stumbling upon this Yosemite photography workshop, I had found my people.

Why You Would Attend a Photography Workshop

Most photographers will attend content days because they see the value in stretching their abilities while building their portfolio. Content days are great, but a workshop that highlights both that + community + honoring God with your business? It’s seriously too good to be true!
After exploring what Rooted Workshop was all about and looking up the speakers, I was hooked! I knew it was a once-in-a-lifetime event! It’s obvious that at the heart of this workshop is building community as photographers and submitting your business to God. I just love the host, Dani Purington’s passion, who cares so deeply for her students and speakers! Each one of us had the chance to connect with other photographers, cultivating friendships as we received nonstop education!
I continue to reap the fruits of the wisdom passed along by Dani and the rest of the instructors at this workshop. Their passion for photography and how they really cared for each of us is infectious! Shouldering alongside other like-minded and talented photographers, I felt both loved and challenged, inspired, and understood. I’m so grateful for the support and inspiration of all the ladies I photographed beside at this Yosemite photography workshop.

Why You Should Challenge Yourself By Shooting Someplace New

OK, but can we talk about THE CONTENT? Every Rooted Workshop is held at a different location and experiencing this one in Yosemite National Park was breathtaking. Seeing Yosemite for the first time quite literally took my breath away and I even had tears in my eyes.
Deep inside the caverns of my adventurous soul is the dust from the places I’ve traveled and forever long to return to. A few on that list are Hawaii, Venezuela, Israel, and now the highest peaks of California. Attending a photography workshop in a place like Yosemite combines my two loves for both art and travel. Every creative being feels this tug to make something new and I’m incredibly thankful for my camera and the ability to make profitable art with it.

Upon my return from the Yosemite photography workshop I shared some of my photos with my husband and he said, “Look how far you’ve come! I’m so proud of you.” It was a dream come true to challenge myself in new locations and be enabled to capture the most amazing images. Your photos not only tell your clients story, but they also show the story of how far YOU have come as a photographer.

What I Walked Away With

The primary message delivered to all of us photographers at Rooted’s Yosemite photography workshop was this: your work should stem from the heart of Jesus.
Since attending this workshop, I no longer see my photography business as a hobby turned job–but a gift from God. It is something that has been entrusted to me to steward well. It is a gift and an opportunity to show Jesus to every client that books me.
As one of our speakers, Alyssa Brooke put it, “We don’t work to rest–we rest to work.” Keeping this perspective in mind, that my business is not just work but a blessing that I can use as a ministry to others, is a lesson I won’t forget!

Why You Should Go to THIS Photography Workshop

If you’re an aspiring or even an experienced wedding and elopement photographer, you love traveling, and love Jesus, then I cannot recommend Rooted Workshop enough! It was truly an experience better than I could have anticipated.
If you’re looking for direction in your photos and new life in your business then you have to make it happen. Jesus was so evidently behind what these ladies created. Focused time in a mostly internet-free, non-distracted environment was exactly what our souls needed to connect with each other, our goals, and to reconnect with Jesus.
Seriously, if you’re considering a photography workshop, attend Rooted Workshop. You will have ZERO regrets.
Still not sure? I’m happy to talk all about why I value photography education!
