Adventure session with mariah and zach at hawk mountain

Adventure Session with Mariah & Zach at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary

I love when couples come to me and say, “Hey - I’m sorry but were a bit awkward behind the camera…” Or “I’m gonna need your help not looking stiff, I don’t know how to pose” Or even, “We’ve never actually taken photos together before, so we’re sorry we don’t know how to do this.” Like I get it. Thats my job! And that was Mariah & Zach at the beginning of their session too.

I send each of my brides an engagement session questionnaire, and Mariah had mentioned that they love to hike outdoors. I suggested a few locations but it didn’t feel quite right. I sensed they would be up for more adventure. When I timidly threw out Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, I was nervous to hear Mariah’s response. But she said - “Hey! We were actually going to ask if we could go there! We hiked there last year and loved it!” What a relief.

The night prior, I researched for the adventure session (not your typical engagement session) on Hawk Mountain’s website to scope out the right pathway up the mountain for us. I also reminded Mariah and Zach to bring a change of shoes, plenty of water and a snack, and flashlights because the walk down would be in the dark. I also asked a friend Molly (Her Stuff Here) who I’ve been mentoring and asked to step in and shoot some behind the scenes and also be some support.

The session went beautifully. I remember smiling so much my cheeks hurt (always a good sign). And Mariah and Zach were laughing with me and at me at times, which is the goal because then I know they’re 100% comfortable with their photographer. ;)

So go scroll, and relive this epic fall adventure session. And stay tuned for their upcoming wedding photos in May!
